Did Codex Reset Today?

Yes — a hard reset was confirmed

Thibault “Tibo” Sottiaux, who leads Codex at OpenAI, announced a hard quota reset for Codex and ChatGPT Work users at 04:14 UTC on July 16, 2026. The announcement said weekly usage should return to 100% within minutes.

This was a direct restoration of weekly quota. It was not a promise of a new redeemable banked reset card. That distinction matters because a banked reset can be saved and applied later, while a hard reset changes the active allowance immediately.

Why the date may look different for you

The announcement was posted on July 15 in Pacific Time and July 16 in UTC and much of Asia. A page that only says “today” without a timestamp can therefore be misleading. Codex Reset Radar always publishes the UTC time and links to the original source.

Your own normal rolling-window reset is separate. Check the Usage screen in Codex for the timestamp that applies to your account and plan.

What happens next

A second immediate hard reset is currently considered unlikely because the latest reset has already restored the active weekly allowance. The next public message from Tibo focused on how users would prefer the existing weekly allowance to be paced while the five-hour limit is paused.

We will change the verdict only when a primary source publishes a new explicit reset statement. General product news, model launches, community reports, and unrelated status incidents are not enough by themselves.
