Codex Status vs. Codex Usage Limits

Tell the difference between an OpenAI service incident, a Codex quota limit, and a confirmed usage reset.

An outage is not a reset

OpenAI Status reports availability and performance incidents. A login incident, API error, or degraded component can prevent work even when your quota remains available. When the incident is resolved, access may return without any change to usage limits.

Conversely, you can reach a usage limit while every Codex component is operational. In that case the relevant source is your Usage page, not the service-status dashboard.

How this radar uses status incidents

A prolonged Codex-specific incident can increase the chance of compensation, so it is a forecast signal. It never confirms a reset. Confirmation requires explicit language from an authorized OpenAI source describing restored or reset quota.

The live status card reads the public OpenAI Status endpoint and isolates Codex API and desktop components from unrelated incidents.
